How to Throw Lawn Darts
There isn't a single proper technique for throwing a lawn dart but there are some recommended methods that will improve your performance. Read the proper grip, throwing technique and aiming strategy below and you will be able to master the game with a little practice. Grip the Fins (Flight) or Barrel
Most players choose to grip the yard dart by the back of the dart where the fins, also called flight, because of the front loaded weight. If you grab it by the front it will likely flip around in the air and the accuracy of your throw will suffer. Other players grip the middle section called the barrel and this is also an acceptable way to hold it. Check both methods to see what works best for you. |
Throwing a Lawn Dart Technique
Everyone has their own method to the throw but there are some basics you should follow to maintain your accuracy. First, you should always throw the dart underhanded. This is for safety but also allows you to have the most control over the flight path. During flight, the dart should be thrown with an upwards arc so it can be pulled down by the front weight and land without bouncing around. The more often you can land the dart without it bouncing the better aim you will have.

Aiming Strategy
You would rather aim your darts to be slightly under the target area rather than over. If you throw it over there is little chance you will get a lucky bounce into the target area. Make sure you don't muscle the darts too much in order to maximize your potential points. After all, you only get two throws a round and need to make each one count.
