Aiming Belgian Piks
Perfecting your aim is very difficult to do because there are so many factors that can impact the throw. Pinpointing exactly what you are doing incorrectly can be difficult, but the key is to know the proper techniques and then try to apply them all together. With practice you will improve your skills and begin to learn the proper aim by muscle memory.
Accuracy and Precision
Being both accurate and precise is important to all Vogelpiks players because it takes both in order to master the game. You can be precise by grouping all of your piks together on the board, but if you don't combine that with accurately shooting them in the right section near the bulls eye, you won't be successful. If you continue to shoot groups of piks in one direction that is not where you are aiming, analyze your shot to see if you aren't following through, dropping your elbow, not flicking your wrist hard enough, or some other contributing factor. |
Flight Trajectory
The key to having the proper aim in piks that is different from darts is the straight flight trajectory. In darts you stand much further back from the board so you are required to have an arch toward the flight trajectory or it will land too low. For piks, shoot straight and hard for an accurate shot since it has a shorter distance to travel. |
Rotate Around the Throw Line
One important strategy in properly shooting Belgian piks is to leverage the unique semi-circle throwing line to your advantage. You are allowed to rotate your stance around this line in order to get a more accurate look at the board. After you shoot a couple piks in the same group, you will likely need to take a step to the left or right to get a better angle for a clear shot to land. It is frustrating to see one of your piks defend against another. |
