Anatomy of a Blowgun
Learning the parts of a blowgun is an important step in using one for hunting or just target shooting. Perfecting your aim requires a knowledge of your weapon and the mechanics of how it is made. In addition to the standard items on most basic setups listed below, some also come with optional shoulder straps and break into two pieces for easy transportation.

Mouthpiece — The mouthpiece is an important part because it is where you put your mouth and blow into the gun to create the force that drives the dart. It typically resembles a funnel where the mouth opening is larger than the bore hole so no air can escape out of the sides when you are shooting.
Quiver — With a similar purpose to a bow and arrow quiver, this is where extra dart ammo is stored until you are ready to use it. Barrel (Bore) — The barrel is the long shaft on the gun. Typically longer shafts create more accurate and faster movement on the shot. The bore is the middle portion that is cut out of the inside of the barrel and is where the dart flies through during a shot. Hand Grip — The padded hand grip is available on some blowguns and serves as a place to hold the tip of the barrel up at your target. Sight — The sight slides just over the end of the tip of the barrel and is used to look through while you are aiming your shot. Keep your non-dominate eye closed when looking through the sight similar to shooting a rifle for the best accuracy. |
